The phrase when cars run on information was born back when we were first-quarter, first-year MLIS students. Phil Edwards, one of our favorite lecturers, was trying to guide our brainstorming session on the future of library services. He directed us toward long-range thinking, suggesting: “You know, way in the future, like when cars will run on information.”

His quickie example has resonated with me for more than a year. It nicely captures our feelings around information, service, and really innovative ideas (admit it, filling up with info would be pretty cool!) all in one little phrase. What better tribute to this spark than to keep the phrase alive here? Thanks Phil.
